Each year, one of my favourite book bloggers, Sheila of Book Journey, sets a challenge titled “First Book of the Year“. Once again I’m delighted to accepted Sheila’s challenge, (it’s more of an invitation really). Here’s what Sheila described:
So what is First Book of the year?
The First Book is a book that maybe you have been wanting to read for a while but have not had time for, a coveted book, an old favorite re-read – whatever you want. The point is that this is the book that will kick off the year for you. What will it be?
Our posts of what we are reading will go live on January 1st. You do not need to be done with the book on January 1st, just reading it on January 1st and yes, you can start on the 31st and be reading into the New Year.

Here at Artuccino, I’ve chosen Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott. I love books about books, including books about the craft of writing. Ms Lamott’s book has been on my TBR (to be read) List for quite a while, so it’s now in my currently reading pile. I’ve had a quick peek at the first chapter, and the blurb. It looks very enticing.
A little about the book: In Bird by Bird: some instructions on writing and life, Anne Lamott, a best selling novelist and memoirist, distils what she’s learned over years of trial and error. Beautifully written, wise, and immensely helpful, this is the book for serious writers and writers-to-be.
